Expert Local Insight
Accommodation on Tour
In Cuba, most of the best accommodation comes in the form of casa particulares — locally owned B&B-style guesthouses known for warm hospitality, home-cooked breakfasts and a genuine connection to everyday Cuban life. We use this type of accommodation on the group tours we run.
Our 8-Day Cuba Group Tour is designed to offer flexibility for different travel styles and budgets. Tour pricing depends on the accommodation level you choose: Standard/Authentic Casas, which provide clean, traditional Cuban stays with welcoming local hosts; Upgraded Casas, offering enhanced comfort, modern refinement and more generous space; and Superior Casas, our most premium options, featuring beautifully renovated rooms and boutique-style service. The from price listed above is based on Standard accommodation for two people sharing. If you’d like full pricing across all categories — or personalised guidance on which tier best suits your expectations — simply contact us and our team will be happy to help.

8 Day Cuba Group Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Havana
How to sum up Havana? This complex, culturally-rich, and fascinatingly contradictory city can perhaps be described in a single word: Alive. There’s a lot of hustle and bustle, but your expert local guides will ensure that your 8 day Cuba group tour will never be overwhelming. It’s important to remember that the first day of your 8 days in Cuba is considered to be a joining day, so any activities on this day will depend on what time your flight arrives. While there are no activities planned on this first part of the tour, your accommodation will have been arranged and you have the option to meet your guide and fellow tour members for a delicious dinner.
The heart of this scintillating city is undoubtedly Havana’s Old Town (La Habana Vieja). This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a sublime assault on your senses, with the beauty of the colonial era architecture combining with the spirit of the locals to make an experience that almost feels like some kind of immersive theatre production. Many of the main points of interest are within a conveniently close proximity to each other, so you can experience much of the city on foot (so be sure to pack some comfortable walking shoes). If you want to spend extra time in Cuba’s capital, we will be very happy to arrange your accommodation, and our expert guides will be able to give you some great recommendations about what parts of the city (and surrounding countryside) you should explore on your own.
ACCOMODATION
- Authentic, Upgraded or Superior B&B Style Accommodation
INCLUDED
- Airport Transfer on Arrival (Havana airport)
MEALS INCLUDED
- No meals included on this day, but a group dinner is planned for those arriving early enough
Day 2: Vinales via Fusterlandia
Today you will set off to Vinales. To break up the journey, we will take you to the fishing village of Jaimanitas, an unassuming part of Havana that has been utterly transformed by the artist Jose Fuster. Fuster has made his entire home, and much of the surrounding neighbourhood, into an artwork using tiles in mosaic forms.
How will you know you’re getting close to Viñales on your 8 day Cuba group tour? Perhaps it will be the red, rich, fertile soil. Maybe it will be the mogotes – dramatic, circular rock formations that look like a beauty mark jutting upwards from the earth. Maybe it’s the fact that your guide will start to excitedly tell you that you’re almost there! Viñales is reasonably close to Havana, and has been popular with visitors for generations. In the heart of the Pinar del Rio valley, most of Cuba’s tobacco production takes place in and around Viñales.
As you are arriving into Vinales, there will be time to stop at the Los Jazmines look-out point to admire Vinales and the Pinar del Rio province in all its splendour.
That rich red earth that you see is ideally suited to the cultivation of tobacco, and you will learn about the birth of cigars. To learn about the local tobacco-growing process we visit a tobacco plantation and see a fully operating secadero (drying house) in which tobacco leaves are cured from February to May. The evocative scent that wafts out of the secadero will forever be associated with Cuba.
When the sun goes down, the village of Viñales comes out to play. There is a remarkable energy to the township, which is deceptive given its relaxed, laid-back atmosphere.

Day 4: Cienfuegos via Zapata Peninsula and Bay of Pigs
Cienfuegos is often referred to as the Paris of the Caribbean, but upon arrival, you’ll wonder why anyone needs to compare this pearl of a city to anywhere else. There’s also a treat on the way to Cienfuegos. We’ll make a stop at Playa Girón, which is otherwise known as the Bay of Pigs. This infamous spot was where the US attempted to stage an invasion of Cuba, which was ultimately a failure… and a big one at that.
At the Bay of Pigs, you might choose to visit the local museum to learn more about the area’s history and there will also be time for some swimming and snorkelling on one of Cuba’s best reefs. Situated just a few steps from the beach.
Now its time to go to Cienfuegos, whose Parisian comparisons come from the French settlers who made the city their home. Many of them came to Cuba from other territories in the New World and their architectural influence on the city is obvious.
The wide boulevards and expansive parklands are ravishing, and history is on proud display at every turn. At the entrance to the harbour you’ll see the Castillo de Jagua, an ancient fort that allowed the city to withstand the pirate attacks that were once common in Cuba. Many buildings in the town have been given UNESCO world heritage status, and you might think you’ve never seen such a beautiful town… until we show you some other places on your 8 day Cuba group tour.
Take a gentle stroll through Parque José Martí, and then spend some time sitting by the oceanfront Malecón. Though perhaps not as well-known as the walkway of the same name in Havana, the Malecón in Cienfuegos is actually the longest seaside esplanade in the whole country.
ACCOMMODATION
- Authentic, Upgraded or Superior B&B Style Accommodation
INCLUDED ACTIVITES
- Swim/ Snorkel at the Bay of Pigs
MEALS INCLUDED
- Breakfast
Day 5: Cienfuegos, Santa Clara and Trinidad
This morning your local guide will lead you on a guided Cienfuegos city walk before taking in the grand, crumbling architecture.
Amongst many other marvels, your walk will include observing the Terry Theatre, Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción (a church with supremely beautiful stained glass work), Ferrer ́s Palace, the former City Hall, Marti Park and the triumphal arch – the only such arch in Cuba (another nod to the French influences in the city). You will also have some time to walk along the boulevard and visit Punta Gorda (the aristocratic quarter of the city in the early 1900s), and Hotel Jagua.
It’s now time for our 8 day Cuba group tour to set off to Trinidad, the favourite destination of many a traveller to Cuba. Your journey to Trinidad features a stop in the city of Santa Clara to pay your respects to Cuba’s most famous adopted hero. Argentinian-born Che Guevara became an icon of the Cuban Revolution, and after he died attempting to do in Bolivia what he did in Cuba, his body was unceremoniously buried in an unmarked grave. When his remains were discovered, he was exhumed and brought to Santa Clara for a hero’s burial in a purpose-built mausoleum. Santa Clara was the site of one of the final (and bloodiest) battles in the revolution, the city where Guevara and his rebels successfully derailed a military train carrying weapons and ammunition to be used against Fidel Castro.
After visiting the Che Guevara Memorial and Museum, you will make your way to Trinidad.
On your guided walk of the Trinidad Township you will get to discover just what makes Trinidad so special, including Palacio Cantero, Canchanchara, Palacio Brunet, Plaza Mayor, Museo Romantico, and a pottery workshop among other sights.
This city was founded in 1514 and rose to prominence due to the extensive sugar production that took place in the nearby Valley of the Sugar Mills. This came to an end when slavery was abolished in Cuba, and Trinidad’s fortunes began a rapid decline. It has since been painstakingly restored, and the central city is now like a living, breathing, fascinating museum.

Day 7: Havana
It’s time to head back to the Cuban capital for the last days of our 8 day Cuba group tour. Don’t forget that there are a couple of amazing treats waiting for you back in Cuba’s lively capital city.
This afternoon you will really get to know Havana, and the heart of Havana is its Old Town; the village that essentially gave birth to the modern city. The best way to see this sumptuously beautiful district is on an Old Havana Walking Tour. Your guide will be with you every step of the way, perhaps encouraging you to keep moving when you inadvertently stop and stare at your surroundings every few minutes or so. Like much of the New World, Havana was once a walled fortress, although the growth of the city meant that it would soon need to sprawl beyond these original boundaries.
There’s an abundance of cultural riches on offer, and you’ll walk past the El Capitolio, the Museo de la Revolución, and the Gran Teatro Habana. This Old Havana Walking Tour also takes in some of the most stunning squares you will ever see – the Plaza de Armas, Plaza de la Catedral, Plaza San Francisco de Asis and Plaza Vieja. There is much to see on the walking tour, and you’ll think that the beauty of Havana has been squeezed into a relatively compact area.
There’s a great deal of people watching to be done too, as you get to know the people who make up this vibrant city.
Now you can take a break from walking, and you are no doubt itching to take a ride in one of those classic cars that parade through the streets of the city. This iconic method of transportation is synonymous with Cuba, and it sure gives your legs a rest! On a Convertible Classic Car Tour, you’ll be whisked out of Old Havana and will clearly be able to see the contrast with the newer parts of central Havana, Havana Vedado and the faded grandeur of Miramar. We will also take you past the Colon Cemetery, Revolution Square and the iconic Malecon.
You’ll also be taken to one of our favourite spots in the whole city, a rooftop terrace in Havana’s Old Town. You will be taught how to make a delicious mojito (or a non-alcoholic alternative if you prefer) before enjoying a stunning dinner with your guide and the fellow members of your 8 day Cuba group tour. Is there a better way to end your 8 days in Cuba than with a relaxing dinner while watching the sun go down over one of the most glorious cities in the world?

You could, of course, simply perch yourself in one of Havana’s sublime plazas and watch the world go by…

Why we love this trip?
- 8 days in Cuba gives you enough time to gain a truly unique insight into Cuba and the people who call her home.
- Though the tour is exhaustive, it’s certainly not exhausting, with plenty of free time to explore Cuba on your own (particularly its remarkable nightlife) or choose from a range of optional activities your local guide can help facilitate.
- You’ll get to see the glory of Viñales – a stunningly beautiful village that’s also the heart of Cuba’s tobacco production.
- The beaches you used to love might not seem so special after some of the beaches you’ll experience on our 8 day Cuba group tour.
- If you don’t already have a taste for Cuban cocktails, you probably will after this tour! And of course, you’ll learn how to make your own under friendly, expert tutelage.
- Take in the French-inspired architecture of Cienfuegos.
- You’ll visit the final resting place of the iconic (and controversial) Che Guevara.
- Explore the cobbled streets of Trinidad, where it feels like time has stood still.
- Spending time getting to know the locals might well be your most-loved part of our 8 day Cuba group tour.
Want to experience the real Cuba, away from the crowds?
Is this Cuba tour for me?
Our 8 Day Cuba Group Tour is ideal for travellers who want a meaningful, authentic introduction to Cuba — the perfect blend of guided cultural experiences, flexible free time, and the support of a knowledgeable, English-speaking local guide. It’s designed for people who enjoy travelling at a relaxed pace while still discovering some of the country’s most iconic highlights.
- Rather than appealing to a specific age bracket, this tour suits a certain type of traveller: someone curious about Cuban life, open to new experiences, and excited to embrace everything that makes the island so wonderfully distinctive — the inspiring, the unexpected, and the beautifully imperfect.
- Throughout your journey, you’ll stay in Casa Particulares, Cuba’s family-run B&B-style guesthouses. These properties offer a genuine cultural experience and are usually far more comfortable than typical local homes, but they can still be simpler than hotel standards elsewhere in the world. Every room is unique, and as with any developing destination, occasional power cuts or brief breaks in hot water are possible in both casas and hotels.
- One of the most memorable parts of travelling in Cuba is witnessing the country’s trademark resourcefulness. With limited access to spare parts and modern materials, Cubans are masters of creativity — so don’t be surprised to see clever, improvised solutions keeping day-to-day life moving.
- Internet connectivity is improving, but it can still be slow, patchy, or expensive. Many travellers find this to be a welcome chance to disconnect, unwind, and be present in the moment — something Cuba naturally encourages.
- Cuba’s charm lies in its authenticity. Things don’t always run on exact schedules, but with a little patience, flexibility and humour, the island rewards you with rich cultural encounters, warm hospitality, and an unforgettable travel experience that feels genuinely different from anywhere else on earth.

The approximate travel times on our 8 day Cuba group tour will be as follows:
- From Havana to Vinales: 3 hours
- From Vinales to Cienfuegos via the Zapata Peninsula: 7 hours (this is the longest travel day and we make sure we break up the journey at various points of interest)

To download our Cuba drive times map (click here).
Private Transportation:
All private transportation on our 8 day Cuba group tour is included between destinations and for any activities/ excursions included in your itinerary that require transportation to and from the activity. Any extra transportation requirements can be organised through your local Cuban guide and paid for locally in Cuba.
Public transport in Cuba can be amusingly chaotic, but this is not something that you’ll need to be concerned about. You will be driven from destination to destination in comfort, using private transportation, with air conditioning of course, which you will probably be rather thankful for!

Spending Money on Tour:
Everyone spends their money differently while on tour. Some days you might be tempted to spend a little more, and other days you might not. It’s completely up to you. Many of your primary expenses are included in your 8 day Cuba group tour, but you will need to consider other expenses, namely drinks, meals, souvenirs, tips and of course, any optional excursions and activities. We estimate that you will need approximately USD$40.00 to USD$60.00 per person, per day to cover your local expenses.
Travel to Cuba from the U.S.
For those joining our 8 day Cuba group tour from the U.S. (regardless of nationality), please note that the documentation we will include with your booking will help ensure your compliance with current U.S. travel restrictions (515.574 Support for the Cuban People). In addition to retaining your itinerary, please keep records of your booking receipt, airline receipt, and any supplemental insurance purchased. You should retain these copies for 5 years after your travel. Some of our travelers have been asked to furnish these upon application for Global Entry, Pre-Check, and other programs with TSA oversight.
Ready for an authentic Cuban adventure with a small group?
Fitness requirements:
While there are some optional activities and excursions that could be considered to be physically strenuous, the vast majority of your 8 days in Cuba will not be physically demanding. Having said that, you will need to have an average level of fitness and mobility. There will be a lot of exploration on foot, and so you should be able to walk without the assistance of another person. Please also remember that you will be required to carry your own luggage in many instances, as well as being able to enter and exit the tour bus. Some attractions and accommodations also require you to climb stairs.
Supporting the Cuban People:
Our Cuba Group Tours are built around genuine, people-to-people engagement and a commitment to supporting Cuba’s thriving network of privately owned businesses.
The itinerary aims to meet all current U.S. travel requirements, ensuring your visit is both enriching and responsible. Throughout the journey, you’ll stay in welcoming Casa Particulares (independent Cuban guesthouses) and enjoy meals at Paladares, where local chefs showcase authentic flavours and family traditions. Along the way, you’ll meet artists, entrepreneurs, musicians, farmers, and everyday residents—offering countless opportunities to connect, learn, and contribute directly to local communities.
Travel with purpose, experience Cuba through its people, and help ensure your presence makes a positive impact.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need travel insurance for my Cuba tour?
Yes. All travelers are required to have health insurance that covers them while in Cuba, including cover for Covid-19 related illness. We also highly recommend that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance (covering cancellation, curtailment, lost baggage, etc.) at the time of booking. This ensures you are fully protected even before your trip begins. Please note that Locally Sourced Cuba Tours does not provide refunds except as outlined in our booking conditions, so being fully insured is essential.
What is the on-location payment and why do I need to bring it in cash?
Part of the cost of your tour is paid locally in Cuba. This is because it is difficult to transfer large amounts of money into Cuba to operate our tours. Paying a portion locally helps us cover services in cash and also keeps our tour prices lower.
Important: Please make sure your Euro or USD banknotes are in very good condition—damaged or worn notes are often not accepted in Cuba.
Can I book extra nights of accommodation before or after my tour?
Yes. Extra accommodation in Havana (or at other tour start/end points) can be arranged either before your arrival or during your stay. Let us know your requirements when booking, and we’ll assist with suitable Casa Particulars or hotels.
What is the Advance Passenger Information form and when do I fill it in?
Before arrival in Cuba, you must complete the Advance Passenger Information (D’Viajeros Form) online at https://www.dviajeros.mitrans.
The form can only be submitted within 7 days of your departure to Cuba.
Select “Tourism” as your reason for travel (even if you are a U.S. citizen).
You only need to provide the address of your first night’s accommodation.
Screenshot the QR code at the end—this will be required for check-in.
This form is different from your Cuba visa (which must also be arranged before travel).
Should I exchange money at the airport on arrival?
We advise that you do not exchange money at the airport. Instead, wait to meet your guide, who will show you the best and safest places to exchange. In many cases, paying directly with Euros or USD is more convenient than exchanging into Cuban pesos (CUP).
Will someone meet me at the airport?
Yes. Your arrival airport transfer is included. A driver will be waiting just outside the arrivals lounge, holding a sign with your name, near the CADECA (Money Exchange Centre). If your flight is delayed or you can’t find your driver, please contact us via the emergency numbers provided in your travel documents. As a backup, taxis are always available from the official ranks at Havana Airport (approx. $20–25 into Havana).
Can I take Cuban pesos (CUP) out of Cuba?
No. The Cuban government prohibits CUP from leaving the country, and it may be confiscated at the airport. We recommend spending or exchanging your remaining CUP before departure. In Terminal 3 (before check-in), there are shops and an exchange booth where you can use or convert your CUP.
Is Cuba safe for travelers?
Cuba is one of the safest destinations in Latin America, but like anywhere, petty theft (pickpocketing, bag snatching) can occur, particularly in busy Havana streets. To stay safe:
Avoid displaying valuables or walking with your phone in hand.
Leave your passport and bulk cash locked at your Casa or hotel.
Be polite but cautious with street hustlers (“jineteros”) who may offer goods or services.
What type of accommodation will I stay in?
On our group tours you’ll stay in Casa Particulares (Cuban B&Bs). Casas are family-run guesthouses where you’ll enjoy warm hospitality, clean and comfortable rooms, and a more authentic Cuban experience. Each Casa is unique, often with communal areas or verandas to relax and meet fellow travelers. There is the option to stay in authentic, upgraded or superior B&B’s depending on your budget and expected level of comfort.
How will we travel between destinations?
All transport required for your itinerary is included. While we always aim to provide comfortable, reliable vehicles, transport in Cuba is state-controlled, and availability can vary. In the unlikely event of a breakdown, your guide will resolve the situation quickly. If you need additional transfers outside the itinerary, your guide can help arrange these (paid locally).
Do I need a Cuban visa?
Yes, most travelers need a Cuba Visitor Visa (Tourist Card).
U.S. passport holders can order their visa at cubavisaservices.com.
All other travelers can order online at novelacuba.com.
Check if your nationality is exempt or requires a special visa from a Cuban consulate.
Can I use my mobile phone in Cuba?
Yes. You have two options:
eSIM (recommended): Purchase a data-only eSIM before travel through GigSky.
Physical SIM: Buy a local SIM on arrival via Suena Cuba or at ETECSA offices.
Ensure your phone is unlocked and compatible with Cuba’s networks (900/1800/2100 MHz).
How much spending money should I bring?
Expect to spend USD$50 or more per person per day, depending on your style of eating, drinking, and shopping. Bring cash (Euros or USD), as bank cards often don’t work and ATMs offer poor exchange rates. Always carry notes in good condition.
Are tips expected in Cuba?
Yes. Tipping is an important part of Cuban culture and supplements modest local wages.
Drivers: about $1 per person per day
Guides: $3–8 per person per day
Wait staff: 15% of the bill
What should I pack?
Pack light—remember you may need to carry luggage over cobblestones or up stairs.
Essentials include:
Comfortable walking shoes
Small supply of tissues/toilet paper
Hand sanitizer & first aid items
Umbrella and/or rain jacket
Copy of your passport (leave the original secured at your Casa/hotel)
Any other tips for preparing for Cuba?
Bring a reusable water filter bottle (e.g. LifeStraw) to reduce plastic waste.
Gifts are not expected, but useful items like toiletries or clothing can be appreciated by local friends you meet.
Keep receipts for cigars/rum purchases to avoid issues with customs when leaving.
Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Cuba.
